Jesus of Nazareth was a Jewish teacher. He is history's most famous man, more books have been written about him than of any other human, and history itself is divided by his life (before and after Christ).
Jesus lived a most extraordinary life: he was born poor but dedicated himself to heal the sick, to confront injustices in his society, to exalt children and women, and love love his enemies. He spoke to God as if God was his Father, he taught that God loved humanity, and that he himself was God: "I and the Father are one. Again the Jewish opposition picked up stones in order to stone him (John 10:30-31)."
He was unjustly put to death by the powerful of his society. He was apprehended, silenced, condemned, horribly tortured, and finally crucified: "He was despised and avoided by others; a man who suffered, who knew sickness well. Like someone whom people hid their faces, he was despised, and we didn't think about him (Isaiah 53:3)." Jesus was buried, and all his followers abandoned him: his story should have ended here.
Yet, the stories of his life say that on the third day he rose from the dead. Soon after the same followers that had renounced him began to teach that yes, Jesus had been put to death, but that he had also risen again and thus had overcome hatred, injustice, sickness, evil, sin and even death itself. "God promised this good news about his Son ahead of time through his prophets in the holy scriptures. His son was descended from David. He was publicly identified as God's Son with through the resurrection from the dead, which was based on the spirit of holiness. This Son is Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 1:2-4)."
Have you made your decision to follow Jesus?
Do you want Jesus to rescue you from sin and death?
What should you do now?
"Change your hearts and lives.
Each of you must be baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of you sins.
Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Peter, another original follower of Jesus, (Acts 2:38)
